GET FiT Finalist for African Deal of the Year

GET FiT Zambia is honored to learn that the program has been short-listed as a finalist in the Deal of the Year category for the 5th annual Africa Utility Week Industry Awards. The winner will be announced at the AUW awards ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa on 16 May. The shortlisting is an acknowledgement of the three years of collaborative effort that went into developing GET FiT Zambia, which in December 2017 became the official implementation program of the Zambian Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff (REFiT) Strategy.

GET FiT Zambia would not exist without the leadership of the Zambian Ministry of Energy (MoE) and the financial support of the German government. The program was developed through a partnership between Zambian stakeholders including the MoE, Ministry of Finance, ZESCO, and the Energy Regulation Board, along with the GET FiT Zambia team led by KfW and supported by Trinity, African Trade Insurance, Multiconsult, and the African Development Bank.

GET FiT Zambia is also humbled by the short-listing, especially as a lot of the work in successfully implementing the REFiT Strategy lies ahead of us. While we are pleased that GET FiT Zambia has already helped forge a number of private sector partnerships between Zambian firms and international project developers, we know that the success of our program will ultimately be judged by procuring much-needed power projects at affordable rates for Zambian customers. We must achieve these results while navigating a challenging economic climate in Zambia and difficult financial period for ZESCO.

GET FiT Zambia endeavours to overcome these obstacles and accomplish its objectives in the months and years ahead. For now, we wish to thank the event organizers for the nomination and send congratulations to the other finalists for Deal of the Year. We look forward to joining colleagues from across the continent in celebrating the many achievements in the African power sector over the past year.
