Status on GET FiT Zambia in 2021
18 May 2026

GET FiT Zambia continues to support the development of renewable energy projects in Zambia, with ongoing work to advance both solar PV and small hydropower despite sector challenges and delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The GET FiT Zambia Secretariat continues to work with project developers, financiers and public stakeholders to address the challenges facing the programme. The six awarded solar PV projects remain a key part of the programme and once completed, will add 120 MWac of renewable power to the Zambian grid.
The programme is also working to advance small hydropower development. As of January 2021, pre-qualified developers held 44 Feasibility Study Rights granted by the Ministry of Energy, allowing them to undertake feasibility studies for potential small hydropower projects.
